I was convinced that this would be the most colorful celebration in school. And, yeah it definitely was.
I guess it was a bit of a crossover between UN and Family Day because we were all encouraged to wear a national costume of any country. Well, I wore an Egyptian-inspired costume using my sister's old play costume, a pair of white sandals, and braided hair, for the first time. When I entered the school grounds, I immediately noticed that almost everyone was in a Chinese outfit. Well, I'm glad I wasn't Chinese again, having been in the same nationality twice already for UN. Anyway, it shows that we, Ilonggos, have Chinese ties if not, lovers of the Oriental race. So, I was also surprised that the teachers as well got into the spirit of the UN. All of them were wearing costumes and I gotta say, I was pretty impressed by that. I guess they wanted to be the best-dressed teacher or something. So, the first teacher I saw with a costume was Mr. Guintivano, wearing a Jewish-like outfit worn during Jesus' days. Also with a Jewish-like costume was Ms. Escare. They looked like a nice pair when put together side-by-side, having the same height and all. Also, another teacher that struck my eye was none other than my class adviser, Ms. Layson. I was shocked since she told us that her costume was going to be a surprise but I didn't expect her to wear a blonde wig! Her country was a Euroean country which I forgot. Well, I can say that she really worked hard on her outfit.
The first thing we had was the mass, followed by the parade, which I guess was really short. Then after the parade, we had a recess that was meant to be the registration time. My mom was the only one who came but she didn't have a costume on. After that, we had a program which included dance numbers from outside schools and our very own dance troupe. But I wasn't paying any attention along with my friends. We had our own 'presentation' right in our own seats with the music from the ones dancing in front. We then broke into different groups and performed dance numbers from different countries. We were the Persian group so therefore we had to belly dance. I know right. I'm not too keen in dancing but nevertheless, our group won the best presentation, which I think was just a form of pity for us since they gave every group a citation and the only remaining one was just given to us. So then we had lunch after. It took me a long time to buy at the Sbarro stand they had, but at least I was happy when I got to eat my Baked Ziti.
After eating our lunch, we all got bored. My mom was playing Bingo at 1:00 which was surprisingly early since it's usually held at 4:00. Also, the Family Day officially ended at 6:00 which was a total bummer since there wasn't going to be any class the next day. So back to our bored, after-lunch feeling, we decided to head to the St. Catherine classroom to rest. We decided to make a horror video thing but needed the help of Kayleigh who was still resting in her apartment. Well, we had nothing to do,so we fetched her in her apartment and went back to school. We then got tired when we reached the classroom so the horror video thing didn't happen at all. Ally and I then went downstairs and waited for the Bingo to end. When it did, we listened to the band that played. To tell you the truth, I was really disappointed when the concert wasn't what I expected it to be. I expected it to be like the one that happened last year, which everyone said was a blast but I wasn't there. No. This year's band was actually held outside the Sports Complex and they weren't the Rock n' Roll type either. Not much people were listening to them or dancing to their songs. I was really bummed because this year, I could actually stay for the concert for the first time. But it turns out, the concert wasn't enjoyable or fun as I thought. I don't know why but I felt like I was corrupted in some way. So after we went around and around, listened to some songs and talked to some people, my mom came to fetch me. I don't know why, but as unsuccessful as it was, I didn't feel like leaving yet the Family Day Celebration. I still had to leave though and that was the end of my Family Day '10 experience.
But wait! I almost forgot one thing.
When my mom told me that we should take the skywalk in front of the school and ride the jeep at the other side, she wanted to make sure first that there wasn't anyone on the skywalk that would make us feel uncomfortable since it was already beginning to get dark. She told me she saw the back of a person's head up there. I saw it too. That satisfied my mom, thinking it was a security guard so we went up the stairs. We were freaked out when we got up there and saw NO ONE at all. Creepy. My mom said that maybe that person went down already but I didn't believe her because we should have seen someone going down the stairs. So, that's the end of my day. Pretty creepy if you ask. :D

What happened on the 13th Day
October 11. What a day that was.
First of all, we were all psyched to know that there won't be any afternoon classes anymore, just a film in SM City. Everybody was excited, who wouldn't be? Marion said I would ride in her car along with Allyza and Lisa but sadly, Lisa was absent that day. So, we took in Bella, and we were all happy. When we got in Marion's car, we were all thinking the same thing: MJ is so CUTE! MJ is Marion's little brother. He's really cute especially when he talks. As we were preparing to leave the school grounds, Marion asked us if we want to have a take-out at McDo's first before we proceed to SM City with her treat. The three of us were shy and were passing on the question to each other. Marion's mom told us not be shy though. It took us a long time to decide because we were not even sure if we would allow her to treat us. Well, eventually we reached McDo in Jaro and gave our orders. I had a Coke Float, Bella ordered a Caramel Sundae, and Ally got a Float similar to Strawberry (I forgot the name) and we all shared one Large Fries. Marion had a Chicken Burger and I guess her brother did too.
We then arrived at SM City, passing at the back entrance where Ms. Layson told us to proceed. When we saw our classmates, they were surprised at seeing our food. They started complaining to our teacher that they should also buy food, seeing us with our Mcdonald's plastic. That was the time we realized bringing food in was a mistake. The four of us were scared now. We saw Sr. Paz confiscating a group of friends' drinks. That's it. We were doomed.
We tried to hide the food as much as we could. I really felt guilty breaking the law. I felt like a fugitive as we turned our backs on Sister every time she passed by. Whew! I was relieved a little when we reached the 3rd floor without getting caught. We were still hiding our food because Sister was there just a bit near from where we stood. Finally, with much sweat poured out from my body, and probably my parters-in-crime's too, our conscience kicked in. We decided to turn ourselves in since we wouldn't enjoy the movie while we're practically eating 'illegal' food. So we mustered enough courage to go up to Sister. She was still talking to another student when we interrupted her. Marion explained to her why we had food with us and I guess she was listening, but after Marion was done, she didn't say anything.
Weird After that, she walked over to other teachers as if nothing happened. We were thinking what would happen now, now that we told Sister. But then, it was time for us to enter the movie theater. No one seemed to look at us suspiciously anymore, and the guilt at the back of our minds were now starting to disintegrate. The feeling was refreshing. We had fun inside the theater. Sharing the food with others, we had a great time. The movie itself was cool too.
So, those were the things that made that day memorable. Memorable enough to have me blog about it 2 months later. :)

Play Doodle God!
This is a really addicting game. The goal is to create as much elements as possible. You only start with the 4 basic elements: Water, Fire, Earth, and Air but you need to come up with 115! Well, Good Luck!
One thousand-year-long song
Longplayer is a one thousand year long musical composition. It began playing at midnight on the 31st of December 1999, and will continue to play without repetition until the last moment of 2999, at which point it will complete its cycle and begin again. Conceived and composed by Jem Finer, it was originally produced as an Artangel commission, and is now in the care of the Longplayer Trust.
Longplayer can be heard in the lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London, where it has been playing since it began. It can also be heard at several other listening posts around the world, and globally via a live stream on the Internet.

First Day of Exams: Done
Math. Science. Journalism.
Isn't it bad enough that Biology had to be on the first day of exams since we barely understood the lesson only finished the day before? But why was Math on the schedule??
Those thoughts were in my head the night before the exams. There were the Calvin Cycle, the Glycolysis, the Pyruvate Oxidation and the Krebs Cycle. I barely understood any of it and the lesson started only 2 days before the test. Great. Well, let the cramming start. And so it was. I barely studied for Math let alone Journalism. So when the tests came, I found Math to be the easiest then Journalism and of course, Science. I know I had failed in all the three tests today and that's because I didn't study well. I started studying the night before only since I studied for the Mastery Tests the whole weekend. See, this is why teachers shouldn't give their Mastery Tests on the same week as the exams unless they want to see their students complaining 24/7.
Well, better luck for the tests tomorrow, I guess, if I could only get off the computer now...

The word "lethologica" describes the state of not being able to remember the word you want.
I feel oh-so 'lethologic' right now, since I can't even remember the word I was gonna use to describe my current state. ;)

Forgetful

I just left my notebook on top of the drawer, went to the bathroom, made a few side comments to my sister and I was already headed up the stairs when I just remembered I left my notebook. I run down the stairs and for a moment, I silently scold myself for I know that I have forgotten where I put it. In a haste, I push all the things aside on the table, on the sofa and I even look inside my drawers. It's only when I look up that I realize I just left it on top of the drawer.
Why am I so forgetful?
This is not the first time it happened. It's been happening for as long as I can remember. And I dread the next time it'll happen with someone else involved because I know I'd be the one to blame.
Almost anything I hold, be it a remote control, a book, my glasses or even money, I would just leave it in some place where it's not supposed to be. It's because when I need to do something but I'm still holding an object, I would just leave it in order to finish that something and then when I'm done, I would have already forgotten about that object. It's only when I'm in the middle of another activity that I remember about that object.
It's not only the location of an object that I would forget, it's also an event or a conversation that would happen only minutes ago. And then when someone interrupts or something else happens, I completely forget everything else, including that event/conversation.
You could say I get easily distracted and put all my attention into that new event that just happened. And it's true. I do easily get distracted and it seems that there's nothing I could do about it because it's like my nature.
I consider it a curse because if I can't even remember something that just happened minutes ago, that means I might not be able to remember a huge chunk of my life. And remembering a huge part of my life means something to me because I love to look back and reminisce events and moments. It also makes my heart sad to know that those moments would never come back. But back to the point, I really want to change this kind of nature, if not a habit because it's unintentional.
Someday, I will learn why God has given me this kind of curse. And maybe when I do learn why, I wouldn't consider it a curse anymore, maybe I will learn of its importance in my life and I might call it a gift. Someday...
Waterfalls: A Dream

I've always been fascinated by this work of nature. It seems like a fairytale to me, a fairytale in the sense that it seems magical and surreal (for me that is). You can guess that I have been nowhere near one and that it is an absolute dream to see it up close and possibly swim in it. I've dreamed of having picnics on it with my friends, splashing around the water and forgetting reality for a while.
I really need this kind of relaxation especially since it's Exams next week and the pressure's too much. A dip in its waters and a few shots to capture the moment would do me good right now. :)
Hope

This song by Twista feat. Faith Evans has long been a favorite of mine as well as my sister. I used to wait for the music video to appear on MYX or MTV, either way I would still sing along to its lyrics full of inspiring messages. It served as the soundtrack for a movie, Coach Carter. In the beginning of the music video, it shows a clip from the movie where a guy is saying an inspirational quote that serves as my sister's favorite. It goes like this:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
And now for the song Hope:
[Verse 1 (Twista)]
I wish the way I was living could stop, serving rocks,
Knowing the cops is hot when I'm on the block, And I
Wish my brother woulda made bail,
So I won't have to travel 6 hours to see him in jail, And I
Wish that my grandmother wasn't sick,
Or that we would just come up on some stacks and hit a lick, And I (I wish)
Wish my homies wouldn't have to suffer,
When the streets get the upper hand on us and we lose a brother, And I
Wish I could go deep in a zone,
And lift the spirits of the world with the words with in this song, And I (I wish)
Wish I could teach a soul to fly,
Take away the pain out cha hands and help you hold them high, And I
Wish my hommie Butch was still alive
And on the day of his death we had never took that ride, And I (I wish)
Wish God could protect us from the wrong
So that all the soldiers that were sent over seas come home
We will never break, though they devastate, we shall motivate,
And we gotta pray, all we got is faith.
Instead of thinking about who gonna die to day,
The Lord is gonna help you feel better, so you ain't gotta cry today.
Sit at the light so long,
And then we gotta move straight forward, cuz we fight so strong,
So when right go wrong,
Just say a little prayer, get ya money man, life go on!!!
Let's HOPE!
[Chorus (Faith Evans)]
Though I'm hopeful, yes I am, hopeful for today,
Take this music and use it
Let it take you away,
And be hopeful (hopeful) and he'll make a way
I know it ain't easy but that's okay.
Cause we hopeful
[Verse 2 (Twista)]
I wish that you could show some love,
Instead of hatin so much when you see some other people commin up (I wish)
I wish I could teach the world to sing,
Watch the music and have 'em trippin of the joy I bring, (shiit)
I wish that we could hold hands,
Listen instead of dissin lessons from a grown man, And I (I wish)
Wish the families that lack, but got love, get some stacks
Brand new shack and a lack that's on dubs, And I
Wish we could keep achieving wonders,
See the vision of the world through the eyes of Stevie Wonder, (you feel me) (I wish)
And I hope all the kids eat,
And don't nobody in my family see six feet, (ya dig)
I hope them mothers stain' strong,
You can make it whether you wit him or your mans gone, And I (I wish)
Wish I could give every celly some commissary,
And the po po bring the heat on them priest like they did R. Kelly, And I
Wish that DOC could scream again
And bullets could reverse so Pac and Biggie breath again, (shit) (I wish)
Then one day they could speak again,
I wish that we only saw good news every time we look at CNN,
I wish that we could never get the blues,
Wish I could bring back the people that died at E2
I wish that we could walk a path, stay doin the right thing
Hustle hard so the kids maintain up in the game,
Let's HOPE
[Chorus (Faith Evans)]
Though I'm hopeful, yes I am, hopeful for today,
Take this music and use it
Let it take you away,
And be hopeful (hopeful) and he'll make a way
I know it ain't easy but that's okay.
Cause we hopeful
[Verse 3 (Twista)]
Wish the earth wasn't so apocalyptic,
I try to spread my message to the world the best way I can give it,
We can make it always so optimistic,
If you don't listen gotta live my life the best way I can live it,
I pray for justice when we go to court,
Wish it was all good so the country never even went to war
Why can't we kick it and just get em on,
And in the famous words of Mr. King "Why can't we all just get along",
Or we can find a better way to shop and please, And I
Hope we find a better way to cop a keys, And I
Wish everybody would just stop and freeze,
And ask why we are we fulfillin these downfalls and prophecies,
You can be wrong if it's you doubting,
With the faith of a mustard seed you can move mountains,
And only the heavenly father and ease the hurt,
Just let it go and keep prayin on your knees in church!!
And let's HOPE
[Chorus (Faith Evans) X2]
Though I'm hopeful, yes I am, hopeful for today,
Take this music and use it
Let it take you away,
And be hopeful (hopeful) and he'll make a way
I know it ain't easy but that's okay.
Cause we hopeful..

Words That Cannot Be Tanslated To English

Hygge
Hygge is something we all want all the time – but seldom have. It is a Danish word meaning a “complete absence of anything annoying, irritating or emotionally overwhelming, and the presence of and pleasure from comforting, gentle and soothing things”. It is especially associated with Christmas time, grilling Danish sausage on long summer evenings and sitting around lit candles on a rainy night. What an amazing word!

Ilunga
Ilunga is a Bantu word and, in 2004, it had the sole distinction of being chosen as the worlds most difficult word to translate. In Bantu it refers to a person willing to forgive abuse the first time, tolerate it the second but never a third time. Even trying to think of an English word that closely resembles the meaning of this hurts my brain so I won’t bother trying. The closest short sentence I can think of in English is “tolerant to a point”.

Bakku-shan
Here is another great Japanese word with no English equivalent. Bakku-shan is the word for a girl who looks pretty from behind but ugly in front. I can’t find out whether they have a word for the reverse situation, or for that other frighteningly common problem these days, where you think a girl looks good from behind only to discover that she is a he! Modern fashion has a lot to answer for!

Imagining Fantasies.

They're all in my head. But where else could they be?
First of all, I love to imagine things. You name it. Things that might happen next. Things that I wish could happen. And the not-so-possible things that would surely do me good.
You can say I have an overactive imagination, working full time and is surely not going to stop. Sometimes, I would think of the worst things that could possibly happen when I'm in a certain situation. Like I'm in some sort of a worst-case scenario. I think I got that from my parents, who are always practical in situations. Sometimes, when I'm the unlucky fellow who turns off all the lights downstairs at night, I would hastily turn it off and rush up the staircase, as though I am being chased by an invisible monster. In my mind, there's someone or something there that's just waiting for all the lights to turn off so that it could pounce at me or something like that.
In short, I like to scare myself with all these fantasies.
Well, not all my fantasies are scary and I don't really like to scare myself. I just can't help it nor stop it when the imaginings have begun.
I like to fantasize about things that make me happy like a perfect life or having things I wish I could have. I also like to make up stories about my favorite celebrities and such. I would imagine myself in a favorite TV show or in a movie. I would then draw all the things I have fantasized and well, keep it for old time's sake. I would NEVER let anyone see it, not even my own family.
Sometimes, I don't even realize I am in school or even the fact that I'm actually here when I have these sudden outbursts of fantasies. I guess I got lost in my imagination, away from reality, thanks to this imperfect life of mine.
I think that if I had most of the things I want in life, I could spend less time imagining and more on the reality part because I'd be contented with what is real. But, I guess I have to be contented with what I do have because it's what God gave me. I'm not saying it's wrong to imagine, you actually need to have imagination in order to live a good life. It's just that when you imagine or fantasize about things, you need not to be carried away and dwell in your thoughts forever. No. Someday, you need to snap back into reality and actually work your way to achieve your goals and possibly some of the things you fantasize.
And so, I am ending this blog entry with a quotation from Paul Gauguin:
“I shut my eyes in order to see.”
:D
Gonna Be a Long Week.
Next week will be really tough. From Monday to Wednesday, we'll be having Mastery Tests and I should be passing all my projects by then. Then from Thursday to Saturday will come the Second Quarter Exams which I think I'll not have enough time to finish study. I mean, we just finished studying for our Mastery Tests and then we're expected to study EVERYTHING all over again. If only there would be no classes on the 6th then I could finish study everything AND celebrate my mom's birthday. So hopefully by the week after next, I should be on my way to total relaxation, but WAIT! I still have to finish memorizing the Desiderata! And I also need to look for a costume for Career Week and Family Day! *sigh* I guess this long week's getting an extension ;)

Victorious!

Just watched the new show from Nickelodeon, Victorious! starring Victoria Justice from Zoey 101 and lots of other new people. Since this show is a Dan Schneider Production, I expected it to be really funny, just like iCarly and Drake and Josh, and it was HILARIOUS. The show is about Tori Vega fitting in her new school, Hollywood Arts High School, meeting new friends and possibly avoiding an enemy. Well, she didn't do well with the last one, especially since she accidentally poured coffee on Jade West's boyfriend, Beck Oliver. That was enough to drive Jade mad and so she purposely poured iced coffee on Tori during a improvised stage act. That let her down a bit, but with a pep talk from her friend, Andre Harris and her sister, Trina, she had the guts to get back on Jade by kissing Beck in another improvised act.
I really thought it was hilarious especially the part where their teacher made them do an Alphabet Improv, in which you have to improvise an act by starting your sentence with the first letter in the alphabet and the next person has to use the next letter and so on. I look forward to more episodes of this show because I know I'll laugh even harder in the upcoming ones. :D
Mini Kurt?

Is that Chris Colfer's li'l bro? Think again!
Adam Kolkin, 13, will appear on Glee as a young Kurt Hummel in a series of vignettes flashing back to Kurt as an 8-year-old at his mother’s funeral.
When I first saw this photo, I couldn't believe it either. I thought he was Chris' younger brother but then I was even more shocked when I learned that they're not related. He may have his looks, but does he have the voice? Well, we'll just see on the next episode of Glee. :)
